| Boxwood evergreen tree with broad leaves. It is also called “ASAMATSUGE”. The skin is energetic and the annual ring is hardly seen. The color is yellowish white. The island boxwood is a Mikura Island’s specialty and the material is important for crafts from the Edo period. It’s a flagship for as a comb, the printing block, the sign material, and the Japanese chess horse. The shogunate used to provide rice instead of storing it from the Mikura Island. Mikura Island was thought to be the affluent one amongst the seven islands in Izu. Our chopsticks will be produced from the flame boxwood which is thought to be more valuable than the island box wood. | ||
